National Palace Museum

National Palace Museum is not just at the top of most tourists’ must-do list— for some, it is the main reason for visiting Taiwan. Despite the magnificent palatial museum established in 1960s, the NPM has not been able to display more than a fraction of its collection of more than 650,000 artifacts covering “every time period from the Neolithic to the present. In fact, only about one percent of them are displayed at once. Exhibits are rotated every three months. It will take several decades to view the entire collection of NPM.

Yingge Ceramics Museum

Pottery-making came to Yingge in 1804, when a man named Wu An immigrated from mainland China and set up the first pottery business at Yingge. Relying on quality clay and convenient transportation of Dahan River, the pottery industry has been flourished. Today, the handmade ceramics become the best souvenirs for visitors and collectors.

Sanxia Old Street

Blending Baroque style with southern Fujianese design, buildings of Sanxia old street are archaic and magnificent. The dedicated carvings on houses show the prosperity of local community in history. There are also many gourmet snacks on the road side of the Old Street, such as stewed ground pork with rice, soymilk pudding, ice cream, croissants, and others. You don’t want to miss them.

 

Sanxia Cingshuei Zushih Temple

Sanxia Zushih Temple has been the center of belief of local communities since mid-Qing Dynasty. All the themes of the art works were adapted from Chinese and Taiwanese classics and folklore. Every January 6th of the Lunar year, there is a swine contest to celebrate the birthday of the master. During that day, the temple is surrounded by worshipers and visitors, adding much festive mood to the neighborhood. It is said that if you touch the swine’s hair, you will become wiser. For those touch its nose will enjoy peace and happiness through the whole year.aa
